PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the soiling of a backside of a recording medium and to improve transfer performance in a transfer device by which a sheet being the recording medium is guided to a transfer area and a toner image formed on the surface of a photoreceptor is transferred by utilizing corona discharge. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a paper guide 16 for guiding the sheet being the recording medium to the transfer area provided with a corona discharge device 9 oppositely to the photoreceptor 3 to transfer the toner image formed on the image carrier to the recording medium and a conductive shielding member 19 for regulating a corona discharge area on the rear side of the paper guide 16. A tip of the shielding member 19 is provided at the downstream side of a tip of the paper guide 16 in the direction of carrying of the sheet so that distances d1 and d2 from the tip of the shielding member 19 and the paper guide 16 to a peripheral surface (surface) the photoreceptor 3 maintain a relationship of d1<d2, thus the transfer area is secured by a sufficient corona discharge are and the movement of the toner image to a side of the paper guide 16 is suppressed before transferring.
