PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit reciprocating recording/reproducing and normal recording/ reproducing to a magnetic tape. SOLUTION: A first rotary magnetic head pair 15A, 15B which are attached along the outer peripheral surface of an upper drum (rotary drum) 180 deg. apart from each other and have prescribed positive and negative azimuth angles±αdeg.and a second rotary magnetic head pair 15E, 15F which are attached along the outer peripheral surface of the upper drum 180 deg. apart from each other and have larger positive and negative azimuth angles±βdeg. than the azimuth angles of the first rotary magnetic head pair are crossed using a drum shaft 16 as the center and also the attaching heights of the second rotary magnetic head pair 15E, 15F are displaced by 2N track pitches (N is a positive number of one or more) relative to the first rotary magnetic head pair 15A, 15B attached.
