PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To instantaneously print-output a photographic picture from a built-in printer at the photographic spot regardless of the presence or absence of the loading or dead capacity of a recording medium in an electronic camera. SOLUTION: In an electronic camera, a 'direct print mode' for instantaneously print-outputting a photographic picture without recording it in an attachable and detachable memory 100 is prepared in addition to a normal 'photographic recording mode' for recording the photographic picture in the attachable and detachable memory 100. In the 'photographic recording mode', the photographic picture obtained by an image pickup part is compressed, and then recorded in the attachable and detachable memory 100, and in the 'direct print mode', the photographic picture is directly read from a built-in memory 117 to be used as a buffer for temporarily holding the photographic picture obtained by the image pickup part, and print outputted by a built-in printer part. In this case, any recording in the attachable and detachable memory 100 is not operated.
