PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly and effectively correct an oblique travel of a paper sheet. SOLUTION: The payoff device is equipped with a kicker roller 1 and a feed roller 2 which pay stacked paper sheets P off and a gate roller 3 which separates the paid-off paper sheets P, one by one. A conveyor roller 4 is provided integrally with the feed roller 2 and a pinch roller 5 is arranged which can switch the pressing force to the conveyor roller 4 between a strong and a weak depression state. Stoppers 6 and 6' which freely move forward and backward in a conveyance path 14 for paper sheets are provided on the downstream side of the pinch roller 5. Then a switching means places the stoppers 6 and 6' in the forward movement state and the pinch roller 5 in the weak depression state for the period from right before the front edge of a paid-off paper sheet P reaches the stoppers 6 and 6' to a specific time after the front edge reaches them.
