PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the structure of a passage width restriction plate arranged in an exit passage so that cylindrical articles in cans and bottles and rectangular PET bottle articles can be vended normally only through switching operation. SOLUTION: A vending mechanism 12 equipped with a main stopper 12c and an auxiliary stopper 12b across an article exist passage 11 on the carry-out side of a serpentine article storage rack and the passage width restriction plate 13 are arranged opposite each other, and the article storage rack of the automatic vending machine carries cylindrical articles 14 in cans, bottles, etc., and rectangular articles 15 in rectangular PET bottles in order from the bottoms. This rack is equipped with upper and lower adjusting plates 13b and 13c which move in and out of the exit passage from the base frame 13a of the passage width restriction plate 13 and a slider 13d with a grip which protrudes and switches the adjusting plates to backward movement positions. When a cylindrical article is vended, the adjusting plates are set at the backward movement positions. When a rectangular article is vended, the adjusting plates are set at projection positions to secure the operation space for the auxiliary stopper 26 between the bottom rectangular article and vending mechanism.
