PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform magnetization while making the magnetic flux density (residual magnetism) of each magnetic pole large. SOLUTION: To manufacture the magnetic scale which constitutes a magnetic linear encoder for detecting the position of a head moving in a specific direction, 1st multiple magnetization and 2nd multipole magnetization are carried out. For the 1st multipole magnetization, a 1st current having a 1st maximum current value is supplied to the coil 231 of a magnetizing head 23 while the magnetizing head 23 is moved in the direction G of the extension of an unmagnetized scale 10, thereby obtaining a 1st magnetic scale. For the 2nd multiple magnetization, a 2nd current having a 2nd maximum current value less than the 1st maximum current value is supplied to the coil 231 of the magnetizing head 23 while the magnetizing head 23 is moved in the direction R of the extension of the 1st magnetic scale 10 so that the magnetic pole formed by the 1st multipole magnetization is the same, thereby obtaining a 2nd magnetic scale.
