PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten preheating time, suppress generation of tar in a vaporizer and suppress clogging caused by the generation of tar. SOLUTION: A combustion device comprises a substantially flat vaporizing chamber 22, vaporizing elements 25a, 25b which are arranged in the chamber 22, a heat receiver for receiving heat substantially above a burner, a heat transfer portion 27 for transferring combustion heat received by the heat receiver to the chamber 22 and a heating means for heating the chamber 22. The chamber 22 is provided with a space 26 for accommodating tar. On application of current to the heating means 28, temperature rise in the chamber 22 is accelerated to shorten time before starting combustion. Thus it is possible to evaporate fuel in high temperature in substantially the entire region of the chamber 22. Further, since the capacity of the space 26 is larger than the pore capacity in the vaporizing elements 25a, 25b, a large amount of generated tar can be accommodated therein, thereby restraining clogging caused by generation of tar in the chamber 22.
