PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device for automatically displaying an image in a desired position and size immediately after a new image signal is input. SOLUTION: In this display device, when frequencies of horizontal and vertical synchronization signals 110, 111 are varied, a signal timing measuring circuit 105 is directed to measure timing data by a CPU 103, so that it makes a measurement with an image signal 112 that becomes a wholly white display immediately after the frequency is varied. By reading out and comparing timing data 116 and timing data 113 from a memory 104, the CPU 103 determines whether the signal is received in the past or not so that it reads out horizontal and vertical position data and size data 114 of the past image from the memory 104 in the case of the input signal received in the past, while, in the case of a new input signal, it computes, from the timing data 116, data of an image positioned at the center and having a smaller size than a front bezel, and feeds it to horizontal and vertical deflection circuits 106, 107, so that the display device displays the optimal image on a CRT 109.
