PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the range finder which can accurately find ranges in the entire range finding area by reducing range misfinding nearby a switching point for an AF device which is variously improved for a wide range, multi-AF, etc., by devising a photoelectric converting element for the range finder. SOLUTION: Sensor arrays 2a and 2b have photodetection surfaces having their lengths in the base-line direction of the range finder and characteristic switching points which are provided on the photodetection surfaces and vary in photoelectric conversion characteristics in steps. The outputs of the sensor arrays 2a and 2b are received to decide a subject signal extending over the characteristic switching points by a CPU 10. Then the subject distance is found according to the decision result of the CPU 10 and the sensor arrays 2a and 2b. |
