The invention relates to a method for estimating the relative speed of a transmitter (1) in relation to a receiver (2), or a receiving device for radio signals. Said method/device assigns the temporal change in the transmission characteristics of the radio channel to the relative speed of a transmitter (1) in relation to a receiver (2). This assignment operation is performed according to a function between the temporal change in the transmission characteristics of the radio channel (4) and the relative speed between the transmitter (1) and the receiver (2) that is known to the receiver (2).
