The invention relates to a device for measuring the frictional properties of textile fibers. Said device comprises a braking mechanism through which the fibers run and two deflection rollers for deflecting the fiber. One of the strands of the fiber passes the measuring device through the deflection rollers and both deflection rollers (5, 5) are received by a common rigid support (16, 17, 18). Said support (16, 17, 18) has some clearance in the direction of measurement of the strand (28). Said support (16, 17, 18) is linked with a dynamometer (4) that measures which force the braking device (6) exerts on the strand (28) when the latter is passed through it. The support (16, 17, 18) extends in parallel to the strand (28) and can be displaced by an essentially translational motion with respect to its longitudinal extension. The device also comprises an output device for outputting the measuring result of the measuring device. In known devices, the measuring result is unfavorably influenced due to the long path of excursion and the spring/mass system. For the measurement work must be done due to the principle of force times distance equals work. If the frictional value changes quickly, power has also to be generated (work/unit of time). This, too, falsifies the measuring results of the known device. The inventive device overcomes all these problems by using a dynamometer (4).
