The method involves transmitting wave energy during transmission activation, whereby the wave energy is focused at a transmission focal point and has a transmission pulse spectrum centered on a fundamental frequency, converting the wave energy transmitted and fed back from the material to form a set of received signals, focusing the received signals to a beam to form a reception vector containing acoustic data acquired along a reception scan line, bandpass filtering signal components with a filter whose center frequency is lower than the fundamental frequency to form a filtered reception vector and processing the vector for display. Independent claims are also included for an image generation system and for a method of representing ultrasonic reflection characteristics.
