The stereo microscope enables an optical image produced by a microscope and an additional image to be seen through an eyepiece lens contained in the same microscope, whereby the additional image is made visible with a blocked section of the optical image and whereby the area of the blocked section can be varied. The light beams are polarised in mutually perpendicular directions then superimposed.
