A biological aerobic or anaerobic composting process breaks down organic substances in an enclosed vessel (1), emitting gases which circulate (5, 7, 8). The emitted gases pass through a series of chilled cascade traps (13, 14) operated at different temperatures, and in which micro-biological metabolic by-products are captured and are removed from the composting process. A portion of the gas, is removed from the process using a by-pass (11), and is passed through one or more chilled traps (13, 14). The gases are removed from the chilled traps by membranes and the trap temperatures are at below 0 deg C.
|
