The head includes a write head for writing data on a magnetic data carrier and a read head for reading information from the data carrier. An electric circuit element (54) is arranged near to the read head and has the function of generating an electromagnetic field at the read head that acts in the opposite direction to the electromagnetic field generated by the write head at the read head. The circuit element includes at least one electric line through which a current flows. The current may also flow through the write head. Independent claims are included for a slider for a hard disc drive, a hard disc drive and a method of operating a read/write head.
