Width adjustment is carried out through a lazy tongs mechanism (6) driven by a screw-shaft (4) through blocks (5) running on sliders (2). The screw-shaft (4) is driven by a stepping motor (7). The whole assembly is carried on a rail (1) which is traversed by a toothed belt (9) driven by a second stepping motor (8). The motion is continuously adjusted to follow the expansion of the beam flanges using sensors.
