PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image quality images read by hardly causing temporary reading stop operation, without especially increasing memory capacity by freely variably setting the reading speed of a document read means in the sub-scanning direction, transferring the read image data to an external device and setting the reading speed in the sub-scanning direction according to the kind of an image data transfer means to be utilized. SOLUTION: A rear side read part 2 is an additional option member and is constituted by additionally arranging a contact type image sensor 26 and a white roller 27 at with respect to a read position C set on the downstream side of a document convey direction with respect to a conveyer drum 17 in an ADF 13 and on the front stage of a conveyer roller 18. The white roller 27 positioned on the opposite side with a conveyer route between is also used as a white member for shading correction at reading due to the image sensor 26. By controlling the speed of a traveling body motor 12 or a conveyer motor, the reading speed in the sub-scanning direction at the time of reading the document image can be varied.
