<p>A power supply (100) for electrodischarge machining supplies current pulses to a gap (3) between a tool electrode (1) and a workpiece (2). The power supply comprises a DC power supply (E); first switching elements (Tr1-Trn) connected between the DC power supply and the gap; capacitors (C1-C8) connected in parallel with the gap; a second switching element (67) for controlling the currents flowing from the capacitors to the gap; a detector (50) for detecting a start of electrical discharge; and a controller (20) for controlling the first switching element and the second switching element in response to the detector. Current flows from the direct current power supply to the gap through the first switching element for a first period (τ ON) from a start of electrical discharge, and current flows from the capacitor to the gap through the second switching element for a second period (T) shorter than the first period from a start of electrical discharge.</p> |
