POLYMER ELECTROLYTE FUEL CELL AND ITS USAGE

A unit cell includes a pair of electrodes that sandwich polymer electrolyte film, and conductive separators that sandwich the electrodes, each separator having a gas supply channel in at least one side. A plurality of such unit cells are laminated with retainers and compressed into a stack to form a polymer electrolyte fuel cell in which the retainers provide gaps between unit cells. If any unit cell in a stack is found to be defective, it can be easily removed from the stack.
