The fluorescent lamp circuit has at least one fluorescent lamp (10-17), supplied from an AC source (1) providing an AC voltage with an amplitude of less than 100 V via a transformer or a bias stage (6) for stepping up the voltage to obtain a voltage amplitude of between 200 and 400 V. The AC voltage may have a frequency of between 50 and 100 Hz, with a lamp driver circuit incorporated in the transformer circuit or the bias stage, allowing the fluorescent lamp to be supplied with a higher current over a timed initial interval, until the lamp reaches its normal operating temperature.
