Table data is divided into one or more blocks each constituted of a value li st in which item values belonging to specific items are stored in the order of item value number corresponding to the item value and a pointer array in whi ch pointer values for specifying the item value numbers are stored in the order of unique record number. In order to combine table data, equivalent items ar e found from the table data, and information blocks concerning the equivalent items are specified. The value lists included in the specified information blocks of the table data are compared with each other, and the values of bot h the value lists are equalized to each other. When the values are equalized, in the information block to which the item value is added, pointer values of th e related pointer array are added. The value lists included in the information blocks concerning specific items are made equivalent to each other in the table data.
