ADAPTIVE THREAD MANAGER

A system and method for intelligent timing of thread creation for processing asynchronous transactions in a multi-threaded server computer. When the presence of a service request is detected at an inbound queue, it is determined stochastically whether to honor or defer the service request. If the service request is honored, a stochastic scaling value is adjusted to reflect the creation of a thread. A worker thread is then created. If the service request is deferred, the service request is re-queued at the tail of the inbound queue.
