Ferroelectric ceramic materials prepared by doping mixed oxides of Pb, Ba and Nb

Ferroelectric material has the general formula Pbx-3y/2-3z/2Ba1-xLayBizNb2O6 where x =0.4-0.6, y=0.01-0.03 and z=0.01-0.03. It is prepared by doping PbBaNb2O6 with Bi and La in place of lead only. The preparation of the material by calcining oxides of Pb, Ba, La, Bi and Nb with an excess of lead oxide, cooling and grinding the product and mixing it with a binder to form pellets, sintering the pellets to form sintered discs, applying silver paste to both sides of the discs and poling the discs by corona discharge is described. Applications of the material may include its use in underwater ultrasonic transducers.
