At least one motor has a fan driven by the motor shaft. Vanes of the fan cooperate with a pulse generator. Electrical signals from the pulse generator are processed, converted into a bus protocol, and the obtained data are transmitted electrically or optically via a bus system to a central processing unit or a stored program system. The pulse rate is low enough that maximum data transmission rate of the bus system is not exceeded after conversion into the bus protocol. The pulse rate may be reduced or divided prior to conversion to bus protocol. An Independent claim is included for an apparatus for rotation speed and/or direction detection.
