A new method is provided for reducing noise in seismic and seismic derived rock property data; for deriving various new data from input seismic and seismic derived rock property data which highlight spatial changes in subsurface structure, stratigraphy, lithology and rock fluids; and for the analysis and interpretation of such data. The method is based on the calculations along microlayer horizons of an input earthmodel. Measures are calculated of the rate of change of the amplitudes of seismic and seismic derived rock property cubes and of the direction in which the amplitudes of seismic and seismic derived rock property cubes change along microlayer horizons, and the seismic and seismic derived rock property data is filtered along the microlayer horizons. To accommodate inaccuracies in the input earthmodel, the calculations can also be performed on microlayer horizons which are locally rotated around each microlayer horizon definition point. The generated measures, filter output and other associated data may be stored along the microlayer horizons, and subsequently retrieved and displayed for any microlayer horizon to analyze and interpret the spatial variation of subsurface structure, stratigraphy, lithology and rock fluids. When the microlayers are sequentially organized in time the analysis and interpretation is enhanced through a display generated by sequentially stepping through the stack of microlayers and viewing any of the output data.
|
