The coupling system consists of a support (12) with a coupling (16) for a carrier (10), and one or more slings (24, 25, 25') with flexible suspension elements and connectors for attaching them to a vehicle subassembly and the support. The support is fitted with a sling plate (13) which has at least two holders (32, 33) for the ends of the slings in first or second positions. Each sling has at least one connector (30, 31, 31') for attaching to the sling plate holders, allowing the vehicle sub-assembly to be slung beneath the support at a set distance from the sling plate surface.
