DECODER OF MOVING PICTURE EXPERTS GROUP SYSTEM AND MANAGEMENT METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: An MPEG system decoder is provided to reduce a memory size by compressing restored data according to a differential pulse coded modulation(DPCM) method or a division method and reading the stored data from the memory. CONSTITUTION: A memory management processor(22) stores MPEG-compressed image data separated by an MPEG bit stream decoder(20) in a memory(24) and outputs compressed image data stored in the memory(24) to an MPEG image restoration part(26). The MPEG image restoration part(26) restores the compressed image data, and a compression and restoration part(30) compresses the restored image data according to a DPCM or division method to output the compressed image data to the memory management processor(22). The memory management processor(22) outputs image data stored in a restoration data storage region of the memory(24). The compression and restoration part(30) re-restores image data from the memory(24) to output the restored image data to an image output processor(28). The image output processor(28) outputs the restored image data to a television.
