PURPOSE: A gear lever in a manual transmission is provided to enable a driver to easily start a vehicle by using the gear lever as a key. CONSTITUTION: A gear lever having a key function comprises a key box switch(10) installed in the gear lever; a finger print detecting device(30) detecting the finger print of a driver in the handle portion of the gear lever; a control device(20) recognizing the driver with information from the finger print detecting device and controlling a signal from the key box switch; an operation switch(90) operated by the control of the control device according to the operation of the key box switch; and a drive unit(80) operating the operation switch by a signal from the control device. Therefore, the driver easily starts a vehicle without bending a waist and without finding the hole of a key box in a dark place.
