PURPOSE: A device and a method for calculating vehicle traveling speed are provided to precisely calculate the traveling speed of a vehicle by using receiving time of supersonic wave, and to maintain precision in calculation even when used for a long time. CONSTITUTION: A time outputted from a timer is read for deciding an established time. In case the counted time reaches the established time, supersonic wave is received through first and second supersonic wave receiving instruments for a specific time. Then, the received time is calculated. By reading a time outputted from an atmosphere temperature detect instrument, an atmosphere temperature is calculated. Traveling speeds at left and right sides of a vehicle are calculated by using the supersonic wave receiving times of the supersonic wave receiving instruments and the atmosphere temperature. By obtaining an average between the traveling speeds of left and right sides, a final traveling speed is calculated. A control signal is outputted from a data display instrument for displaying the final traveling speed.
