PURPOSE: Controlling method and device for controlling a shift duty in a power on downshift operation are provided to improve shift quality through supplying an initial hydraulic pressure to repulsive components in the power on downshift for kick-down. CONSTITUTION: A control unit detects traveling information for detecting a power on downshift operation from fourth to third ranges. A reference duty value is calculated for adjusting a duty of a shift range from an established shift pattern according to opened degree of a throttle valve and vehicle speed information. After reading data about corrected duty value for opened rate of the throttle valve before starting shift, data about the corrected duty value for oil temperature at starting shift are read. The corrected duty values are calculated for detecting a real duty control pressure. A controlling pressure at a hydraulic pressure line is increased for supplying a stable shift synchronization.
