Display system for motor vehicle instrument panel has one mechanical indicator and reconfigurable display panel

The system includes a panel with at least one reconfigurable section. A panel frame extends along only one side of the panel. A number of row electrodes and a number of column electrodes are supported by the panel frame and extend from the frame into the reconfigurable panel section. At least one mechanical indicator is positioned near to the panel. A controller is provided for controlling the row and column electrode to selectively generate an image on the panel, and to control the mechanical indicator to deliver to an observer the desired information. The panel may be transparent. A filter may be positioned between the display component and the display panel. An independent claim is included for a display system.
