摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the soiling of the leading edge of transfer paper by toner due to the residual potential of an intermediate transfer body by setting the value of transfer voltage applied near the leading edge of the transfer paper lower than that at the succeeding part thereof. SOLUTION: The transfer voltage is controlled so that it may be low (transfer voltage P0) at the trailing edge of the transfer paper and then it may be increased to P stepwise. Thus, the residual potential at the leading edge of the transfer paper is restrained to be low, so that the soiling of the leading edge of the transfer paper by the toner due to the influence of the residual potential is prevented. It is desirable to set the transfer voltage P0 as high as possible within a range where the soiling of the leading edge of the transfer paper by the toner is restrained, because there is possibility that adverse influence is exerted on an image if the transfer voltage P0 is set to be low, which causes a situation that transfer performance is lowered all the more. The soiling of the transfer paper by the toner due to the influence of the residual potential tends to get more remarkable as temperature and humidity get higher. Then, the value of the transfer voltage P0 at the leading edge of the transfer paper is set lower when the temperature and the humidity are high (a) than when they are low (b).
