PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to print data on a printer like sending mail allowing the printer to generate image data according to received mail and perform a printing process according to the image data. SOLUTION: A client sends mail containing a document to be printed to a mail server. An acquisition part 22 of the printer is connected to the mail server through a communication part 21 and sends downloaded mail out to an extraction part 24. The extraction part 24 extracts the mail body from the mail and sends it out to a job buffer 25. An image generation part 26 generates dot image data constituting the pixels in a print image according to the body of the mail stored in the job buffer 25 and expands them in an image memory 27. An engine control part 28 reads the expanded image data out and supplies the data to a print engine 29.
