PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance reliability of a compressor by operating the compressor at a predetermined r.p.m. for a predetermined operating time after starting thereof and then operating it at a lower r.p.m. for a predetermined operating time thereby supplying lubricant smoothly to the sliding part of the compressor. SOLUTION: A refrigerator body detects temperature in a refrigerating compartment through a temperature sensor for the refrigerating compartment and then detects the difference between the detected temperature and a preset temperature of the refrigerating compartment. The r.p.m. of a compressor 14 is set based on the detected temperature difference and regulated variably depending on a set output. A regulating means operates the compressor 14 at a first r.p.m. for a predetermined operating time after starting thereof, and then operates it at a second r.p.m. lower than the first r.p.m. for a predetermined operating time before operating it at a third r.p.m. lower than the second r.p.m. for a predetermined operating time.
