The device (10) has a cylindrical body (10a), into which an insertion part of an endoscope can be guided and a conical opening (10b) at one end. The device is formed so that it can be held in an open position by the patient's anal sphincter muscles. The length (L) of the cylindrical body is preferably 30-150 mm long. The maximum diameter (D) of the conical opening is preferably 2-5 times the outer diameter (d2) of the cylindrical body.
