PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium that spacing between a magnetic head and the magnetic recording medium is suppressed even when it is rotated at high speed and it is excellent in electromagnetic characteristic and durability. SOLUTION: In a disk type magnetic recording medium consisting of at least one non-magnetic lower layer 2 and one magnetic upper layer 3 laminated in this order on a non-magnetic supporting body, the integrated circular opening volume of circular opening having <=100 nm diameter in the magnetic upper layer 3 is defined as 0.02-0.15 cc/g and a lubricant is applied on its surface. The non-magnetic lower layer 2 preferably contains a lubricant of <=10 wt.% based on a non-magnetic pigment.
