The spring shock absorber has a first connection (6) for fixing to an unsprung mass (2), e.g. a vehicle wheel and a second connection (7) for fixing to a sprung mass (1), e.g. the vehicle chassis, with a coupling (10) inserted between a pair of carrier spring elements (8,9), associated with the connections. A damping mass (11) is attached to the coupling element via a damping spring (12), with a damper (13) connected in parallel with the damping spring between the damping mass and the first connection.
