The table has a table frame supporting a pair of table panel sections, which can be moved apart for allowing insertion of an extension panel between them. The table fram has a carrier tube (5) extending between the opposite ends of the table, cooperating with a profile element (7) on the underside of each panel section, for allowing it to slide between its end positions, as in DE 19845511. The profile elements (7) cooperate with a cord drive mechanism (9a,9b) for synchronised movement of the table panel sections.
