The invention relates to a voltage compensator for self-contained direct current sources applicable when the power is delivered to consumers at source discharge rate, said compensator comprising three or more voltage compensation stages (I, II, II) connected in series to a storage battery (BA) each of the stages consisting of a voltage comparator unit (C1, C2, C3), an oscillator and control unit ( OC1, OC2, OC3) an output change-over switch (F1, F2, F3) and a transfer and galvanic separation unit (TS1,TS2,TS3), the voltage compensation stages having a passive participation during both charging and discharging battery (BA) until the voltage is dropped below some pre-set thresholds, the voltage comparators (C1, ...C3) sensing when said thresholds are reached and successively activating the voltage compensation stages (I...III) to switch them on, each delivering a stage of compensatory voltage (U1...U3) which is added to low r.m.s. voltage of the battery (BA) and so the voltage returns to its nominal value at the general terminals.
