The invention relates to a hydraulic motor vehicle brake system having wheel slip control. The inventive brake system comprises a main brake cylinder (2) which is connected to at least one wheel brake (11) via a brake line (10), an electrically driven pump (5) which is connected to the brake line (10) and which is provided for delivering hydraulic fluid in a direction toward the wheel brake (11), and comprises at least one pressure modulating valve (9, 12) which is placed in the brake line (10) and which is provided for varying the brake pressure in the wheel brake (11) by means of control electronics. In order to build up brake pressure in the wheel brake (11), the pump (5) is placed in operation when both the pump (5) and the control electronics are intact, and the brake line (10) between the main brake cylinder (5) and the wheel brake (11) is occluded by an emergency brake valve (13) such that the hydraulic fluid displaced out of the petal-actuated main brake cylinder (2) only flows into a simulator (3) and into a pressure chamber (18') of a pressure control valve (16) which, in the normal position thereof, cuts the delivery side of the pump off from the reservoir (17).
