PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit only a necessary part of transmission data with high resolution by editing image data having areas of different resolution when viewed in a sub-scanning direction and adding additional information showing the border of the area of different resolution of the image data in a procedure end signal after image data transmission. SOLUTION: In a concrete example of the operation of facsimile equipment, image data having areas of different resolution when a transmission document is viewed in the sub-scanning direction are edited. That is, areas A and C are edited with a resolution of 200 dpi and an area B is edited with a resolution of 600 dpi. In the areas A and C, intervals of read lines 20 are three times as large as those of read lines in the area B. For example, when an image such as a photograph or a figure which requires high picture quality is included in the area B of the transmission document, only the part is transmitted with high resolution and other parts are transmitted with low resolution so as to make the communication speed faster.
