A polyester is prepared by reaction of an at least diol component, terephthalic acid, optionally other aromatic cycloaliphatic and aliphatic di- and/or tri-carboxylic acids phenol, containing functional groups suitable for polycondensation A polyester (I) is prepared by reaction of : (A) 30-70 pts. wt. neopentyl glycol, 2-ethyl-2-butyl-1,3-propanediol and/or 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol and optionally other linear (A1) or branched aliphatic (A2) and /or cycloaliphatic (A3) divalent alcohols and/or (A4) multivalent linear aliphatic alcohols and/or multivalent linear aliphatic alcohols (A5) individually or in a mixture; (B) 40-60 pts wt. terephthalic acid, optionally other aromatic (B1) cycloaliphatic and aliphatic di- and/or tri-carboxylic acids (B2); and (C) 0.5-10 pts. wt. phenol, containing functional groups suitable for polycondensation.
