METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR VERIFYING A SENSOR IDENTITY

Method and system for verifying the identity of at least one sensor unit, e.g. a fingerprint sensor, generating a signal based on measuring one or more properties of an object. A symmetrical encryption key (Ks) is used to encrypt a unique code (SN) corresponding to the sensor unit (2), generating a first code (C). A first asymmetrical encryption key (Ke) being unreadable to a third party is used to encrypt a symmetrical encryption key (Ks) generating a second code (Ck). The encrypted first and second codes (C,Ck) and the unique code (SN) are transmitted to a central computer (3), where the unique code (SN) is used to find a second asymmetrical encryption key (Kd). At the central computer (3) the second code (Ck) is decrypted using the second asymmetrical encryption key (Kd) providing the symmetrical encryption key (Ks), which is used to decrypt the first code (C) providing a decrypted unique code (S'N). The identity of the sensor unit is verified if the decrypted unique code (S'N) is identical to the unique code (SN).
