A valve includes a valve body, a valve stem assembly and a stop assembly. The valve body includes a passage having an inlet and an outlet. The valve stem assembly includes a valve member movably mounted in the passage between the inlet and the outlet. A valve adapter is connected to the valve member and is operable to move the valve member. The stop assembly includes a collar (130) fixed to the valve body (120). A valve body stop (132) is fixed to and projects from the collar. A valve adapter stop (172) is fixed to the valve adapter and is sized and configured to engage the valve body stop. The valve body stop and the valve adapter stop cooperate to limit movement of the valve adapter relative to the valve body and the collar resists deflection of the valve body stop. A valve adapter for use in a valve of the type openable and closeable by rotating a valve member includes an adapter portion arranged and configured to receive each of a T-wrench and a square-adapter wrench.
