According to the inventive method for producing a urea-formaldehyde fertilizer, a precondensate consisting of an aqueous solution of formaldehyd e urea and/or methylolureas in the form of monomeric and low-molecular polymer s is modified to a pH value < 4 by adding an acid, and the condensate that is produced as the reaction product is dried in a neutralized state. According to the invention, hexamethylenetetramine and/or tetramethylenediamine are added to the precondensate before the acid is added. According to a further featur e of the inventive method, a melt consisting of paraformaldehydes and urea can be used as a precondensate instead of an aqueous solution of different components.
