PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove noise by accurately extracting edges even from videos containing many noise. SOLUTION: In this image processor, a blocking circuit 102 extracts the noticing picture element data of input video signals and its surrounding picture element data and a dynamic range calculating circuit 127 calculates the dynamic range in a block. When the magnitude of the calculated dynamic range is larger than a certain threshold, the extracted data are discriminated as an edge and, when the magnitude is smaller than the threshold, the data are not discriminated as the edge. The threshold is calculated from the quantity of noise in the input video signals. An average contour component value calculating circuit 124 calculates the quantity of noise in the input video signals and a threshold calculating circuit 126 calculates the threshold used for discriminating the edge from a calculated average contour component value. An edge extracting circuit 128 discriminates whether or not the extracted data are an edge from the dynamic range and the threshold and performs edge preserving processing or noise removing processing. |
