PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a laser beam to be adjusted for reproduction in an optimum output level. SOLUTION: A magneto-optical disk device 1 is provided with a differential amplifier 23, a shortest record mark discriminator detecting a shortest record mark reproduction signal corresponding to components of a shortest record mark in reproduced signals obtained by reproducing a magneto-optical disk 100, an envelop detector 33 detecting an amplitude level of the shortest record mark reproduction signal, a comparator 35 comparing an amplitude level with a reference voltage outputted from a reference voltage source 34, and a drive control section 30 making an output amplitude level of a laser beam for reproduction higher than the reference voltage.
