PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact zoom lens which has a >=70 deg. wide photographic view angle at the wide-angle end, a×7 high power variation rate, and high optical performance over the entire power variation area as a 4-group zoom lens consisting of four groups with positive, negative, positive, and positive power values in order from the object side. SOLUTION: This zoom lens is varied in power from the wide-angle end to the telephoto end by moving a 1st lens group 1G and a 4th lens group 4G toward a body so that the interval between the 1st lens group 1G and a 2nd lens group 2G increases, the interval between the 2nd lens group 3G and a 3rd lens group 3G decreases, and the interval between the 3rd lens group 3G and 4th lens group 4G decreases. At least one of the lenses constituting the 2nd lens group 2G is a plastic lens.
