摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately transfer each domain in a recording layer to a reproducing layer even when the recording density is increased and to detect the transferred magnetic domains. SOLUTION: The magneto-optical recording medium 10 includes a translucent substrate 1, dielectric layer 2, reproducing layer 3, intermediate layer 4, recording layer 5 and dielectric layer 6. The reproducing layer 3 is a magnetic film which is an intraplane magnetization film at room temp., and which changes into a perpendicular magnetization film at about 150 deg.C. The intermediate layer 4 is a magnetic layer which is the intraplane magnetization film at room temp., which reaches the Curie temp. at about 140 deg.C lower than a reproducing temp. The magnetization disappears only in the region which reaches the Curie temp., but other regions maintain the intraplane magnetization. The region reaching the Curie temp. is almost equal to the shortest domain length of the recording layer 5.
