PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cooling tower in which water supply can be switched surely between all rows of filler and only a normal wet region, water leakage from the normal wet region to a wet/dry switching region is eliminated essentially, white smoke preventing function can be sustained constantly at a high level, and water supply between the fillers in the normal wet region and the wet/dry switching region can be made uniform easily. SOLUTION: Hot water is distributed from a plurality of water distribution openings made at a lower part of a hot water tank 5 and hot water flowing down on the surface thereof is cooled through direct contact with outdoor air. A filler 12 is sectioned into normal wet regions 13a and wet/dry switching regions 13b alternating contiguously to each other while isolating the outdoor conduction space. Furthermore, water distribution troughs 22 for wet/dry switching are provided horizontally at a lower part of the hot water tank 5 along the gap between the fillers 12 in the wet/dry switching region with the lower end thereof being fitted in the gap. Water is distributed constantly and directly from the hot water tank 5 to the normal wet regions 13a and distributed indirectly to the wet/dry switching regions 13b through the water distribution troughs 22.
